3 things you can do today

3 things you can do today

When it gets overwhelming, sometimes you need to just take it day-by-day. So here are 3 things that you can do today, wherever you are.

  1. Send one more call or email about DHS before the February 13 Congressional deadline.
  2. Put March 28 on your calendar for the next nationwide No Kings mobilization.
  3. Share Friends Here & Now with one more person you know.

Here's a little more information on each of these.

DHS (ICE and Border Patrol): Call/email Congress before the February 13 Congressional Funding Deadline

Congress finally kind of, almost, sort of took a stand against DHS' widespread violations of Constitutional rights and due process by refusing to pass appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security (including ICE and Border Patrol). That vote set Friday, February 13, as the deadline for passing DHS funding presumably with new restrictions. Every Senator and Representative, regardless of party or geography, needs to hear from every concerned voter this week.

March 28: The next nationwide No Kings mobilization

Lots of people have been asking when the next No Kings would take place. Now we know: Saturday, March 28. Put it on your calendar now. The legislators, judges, local police and others who are fighting to defend democracy need to see that we are all behind them. They certainly noticed the growth from No Kings #1 in June 2025 to No Kings #2 in October 2025. They need to see even more of us turn out in March 2026. Connect with local or national organizers to find out about events in your area, including training leading up to March 28.

Readers are telling us that our newsletter and web site are helping. Recent feedback includes:

Your call for action led me to prioritize today contacting my U.S. senators and representatives. Thank you for inspiring and facilitating my and others' quick response to recent threats to civil liberties and our government's taking of courageous, caring, law-abiding people's lives.
Thanks for the nudge.  I sent off three notes this morning.  None of us can believe the scenes from Minneapolis, nor the administrations outright lying.  Who is that stupid?  Anyway.  I appreciated the easy links.
This is great!  Thank you for doing this!!

Every one of us knows friends and family who are feeling overwhelmed. We're not trying to reinvent the wheel, we're just trying to help people find the wheel that's right for them. Maybe it's good sources of information. Maybe it's ideas and contacts for taking action, whether reaching out to elected officials or "praying with your legs" by showing up for local vigils or national demonstrations. Maybe it's just checking out our Signs of Hope page now and then for flickers of light in the darkness.

If you got this newlsetter in your email, just forward it to one more person. Or just send them a link to our Friends Here & Now website at https://www.friendshn.org.

Bonus (kind of): Recording now available of Friends Here & Now co-founder Scott Nadler being interviewed on "Protecting Democracy."
